NEW DELHI: Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Wednesday said the North East is no longer waiting for the future but is actively building it, calling the region India’s “new growth engine” at the curtain-raiser for the Rising North East Investor Summit 2025.
Scindia, who heads the Ministry of Communications and the Ministry for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), highlighted the government’s decade-long investment in infrastructure, health, and education, saying it has laid the foundation for the region’s economic transformation.
“Once seen as the periphery, the North East now stands at the center of India’s growth story,” he said, citing the region’s strategic location, rich resources, and cultural strength as key assets.
The event also featured Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar, DoNER Secretary Chanchal Kumar, and other senior officials. Kumar said investment roadshows across major Indian cities have generated proposals worth over ₹1 lakh crore, with international interest shown by over 75 embassies during an Ambassadors’ Meet last month.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the summit, which will focus on sectors such as tourism, agro-processing, textiles, IT, infrastructure, and healthcare.
