New Delhi: Union Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal emphasized the historic significance of “Equality,” “Liberty,” and “Fraternity” in the Constitution’s Preamble at a national conference celebrating the 75th year of the Indian Constitution at Vigyan Bhavan on Tuesday.
He underscored the importance of integrating constitutional values into daily life to preserve democracy and praised the framers’ visionary leadership, including Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and the contributions of women in drafting the Constitution.
Shri Meghwal highlighted social justice and women’s empowerment as key pillars of the Constitution and stressed its role in shaping India’s governance and global standing.
Speaking at a National conference on “75th year of the constitution of India” organized on the occasion of Constitution Day under the aegis of Department of Law and Justice, Mr Meghwal said this program has provided us an opportunity to understand the importance of the Indian Constitution and make it a part of our lives.
This program serves as a reminder that respecting the fundamental values enshrined in the Constitution is the true way to preserve the spirit of democracy. This lasting legacy of the Constitution will continue to guide our future and will always keep the spirit of equality, liberty, fraternity and justice alive in society, he added.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Meghwal highlighted the visionary leadership of the framers of the Constitution, especially Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, whose foresight and dedication laid the foundation of the Indian democratic structure.
Shri Meghwal stated that the programme is also intended to commemorate the contributions of women who were involved in the framing, drafting, and creation of the Constitution, and he praised their efforts. He stated that social justice and women’s empowerment are important aspects of the Indian Constitution.
Shri R. Venkataramani, Attorney General for India, emphasized that Constitution Day reminds us of our role in the nation’s progress. He stated that the Constitution’s resilience stems from the commitment of “We, the people of India.”
Dr. Reeta Vasishta, Member Secretary of the Law Commission of India, highlighted the commission’s commitment to legal reforms through stakeholder consultations and comprehensive recommendations to achieve constitutional goals.
Dr. Rajiv Mani, Secretary of the Legislative and Legal Affairs Departments, opened the inaugural programme by emphasizing the government’s proactive efforts in legal reforms and initiatives to uphold and deepen constitutional values.
The event included a plenary session on “Social Justice and Women Empowerment,” featuring Justice Rekha Palli, Shri Chetan Sharma, Shri P.K. Malhotra, and Dr. Chandrashekar Rawandale. It concluded with remarks by Dr. Manoj Kumar and was attended by dignitaries, legal professionals, and law students.
The occasion was commemorated by the reading of the Preamble to the Indian Constitution, the publication of a Hindi version of the Ram Janmabhoomi Judgment, and the launch of an online Hindi Constitution course.
