New Delhi: India intends to boost Indian cinema’s worldwide recognition and accessibility through expanded partnership with overseas audiovisual industries.
Speaking after inaugurating the Bharat Pavilion at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in France on Wednesday, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Secretary Sanjay Jaju said, ” India seeks to promote greater collaboration between its audiovisual industry and international counterparts to increase the visibility and accessibility of Indian cinema around the world.
Simultaneously, it will also serve the national goal of using cinema’s power to enhance the country’s soft touch, he added.
Mr Jaju said , it is heartening to have more Indian projects in the Cannes official selection this year, one each in the competition and in uncertain regard.
He said both of these projects have been the beneficiaries of the support from the government in terms of the incentive as well as the official core productions.
The MIB Secretary expressed hope that he Bharat Pavilion in France would serve as a hub for networking, collaboration, and promotion of Indian cinema on the global stage.
Many Indian states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra, are participating in the Cannes Film Market this year to market their beautiful locations for international film productions and to promote state incentives for filming to producers and production firms.
Three films shot in India in collaboration with India’s Film Facilitation Office (FFO) have been shortlisted in various sections of this year’s festival.
Union Territory of J&K is participating in the Cannes Film Market for the first time, reaching out to global film production companies to shoot in ‘Heaven on Earth’, with encouraging responses from stakeholders.
