Mumbai: HDFC Bank today pledged its support for the government’s Swachhata Hi Seva campaign. On this occasion, the bank launched a slew of initiatives, some under its existing ‘Swachhata and You’ programme and some under its on-going health and sanitation programme.
‘Swachhata and You’ drive in over 200 of its Holistic Rural Development Programme (HRDP) villages: This drive will involve inauguration of school sanitation units, awareness drives on hygiene and competitions to spread awareness on cleanliness.
Swachhata and You’ drive in and around select branches: This will entail raising awareness on cleanliness through corporate runs, tree plantation drives, distribution of cleaning material including dustbins and awareness material booklets in close to 700 branches across the length and breadth of the country.
All 89,955 employees renewing their ‘Swachhata and You’ pledge to keep their home, neighbourhood and country clean.
Speaking on the occasion, HDFC Bank MD Aditya Puri said, “We are proud to be part of this extremely important initiative spearheaded by the Prime Minister. There is no greater gift to ourselves than a clean nation. As a socially responsible corporate citizen, it is our duty to work towards it. I am proud to announce that we dedicate our on-going health and sanitation programmes to this noble cause.”
Under HDFC Bank Parivartan, the umbrella brand for all social initiatives at the bank, health and sanitation are important focus areas. Some of the key programmes run by the bank are:· Construction of toilets in close to 1500 schools across 14 states of Punjab, Haryana, MP, Chattisgarh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, UP, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
The bank has also constructed more than 17000 individual household toilets across the country as part of this programme.
