New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Ashta Lakshmi Mahotsav, a three-day cultural and economic showcase which starts on December 6 in Bharat Mandapam, Delhi.
The event will showcase the vibrant culture, heritage, and traditions of the eight northeastern states of India: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura‑—often referred to as the Ashta Lakshmi of India.
Organized as a platform to promote the region’s diversity and opportunities, the Mahotsav will feature a series of programs, including cultural performances, technical sessions, exhibitions, and an investor meet. These activities aim to spotlight the Northeast’s strengths in areas such as tourism, handlooms, agriculture, and sustainable development.
Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya Scindia is expected to provide further details during a press conference at the National Media Centre tomorrow. The event aligns with the government’s broader vision of enhancing connectivity, development, and integration of the Northeast with the rest of the country.
Minister Scindia is expected to highlight the objectives of the event, including cultural promotion, investment opportunities, and developmental initiatives for the eight northeastern states.
The press briefing will also shed light on the technical sessions, investor meets, cultural showcases, and other activities designed to attract both domestic and international attention to the Northeast’s rich potential and vibrant heritage.
The press conference is expected to set the tone for this unique celebration, underscoring the Northeast’s role in India’s growth narrative.
This signature event aligns with the government’s efforts to promote the Northeast as an integral and indispensable part of India’s growth story, emphasizing its importance as the “Ashta Lakshmi” of the nation.
