New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the assignment of additional charge of the post of Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare, to Shri Apurva Chandra.
Shri Apurva Chandra, a 1988 batch Maharashtra cadre IAS officer, is currently Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
An official notification issued on January 1 said this arrangement will come into force with immediate effect until the appointment of a regular incumbent or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The post fell vacant after secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare,Sudhansh Pant, was appointed on Sunday as the new chief secretary of Rajasthan.
The Department of Personnel issued orders about his appointment after Usha Sharma retired from the post on Sunday.
A 1991-batch IAS officer, Pant has been in Delhi since December 2022. The centre on Saturday relieved him of the charge, after which speculations were rife that he would be the next chief secretary of the state.
Owing to his differences during the Congress government, Pant had applied for deputation in the Centre. He was transferred four times within a year and a half.
