GURUGRAM— REC Limited, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) under the Ministry of Power, launched Swachhata Pakhwada 2025 on Friday, marking the start of a two-week nationwide cleanliness and awareness campaign that will run from May 16 to May 31 across its offices.
The initiative is aligned with the Government of India’s broader objective to promote hygiene, sustainable practices and public awareness. The launch event began with the Swachhata Pledge, administered by REC Chairman and Managing Director Jitendra Srivastava, IAS, to all employees.
Srivastava highlighted the importance of the Swachh Bharat Mission and India’s achievement in becoming Open Defecation Free. “Swachhata is not merely an act; it is a reflection of our values and our respect for community and nature,” he said. “The success of the Swachh Bharat Mission lies in the fact that it connected with people at the grassroots level and brought behavioral changes.”
As part of the ceremony, Srivastava unveiled a “Waste to Art” installation — a charkha constructed entirely from 200 kilograms of recycled waste materials. The installation is intended to symbolize sustainability and self-reliance. The event also featured an awareness session by environmental activist Ramveer Tanwar, known as the Pondman of India, who spoke on the connection between cleanliness, water conservation and public health.
Jasmer Singh Chauhan, sarpanch of Sultanpur village, which won the Cleanest Village Award in the 2023 Swachhata Survekshan Gramin, addressed attendees and spoke about the importance of community leadership in driving sustainable cleanliness initiatives.
REC also organized a tree plantation drive within its campus, led by the CMD, directors and Chief Vigilance Officer, to promote ecological balance. A health camp was held for the organization’s housekeeping staff, providing routine medical checkups. In addition, a financial awareness session was conducted in collaboration with banks to inform staff about government welfare schemes and financial inclusion initiatives.
Simultaneously, REC’s regional offices undertook restoration of Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) to strengthen decentralized sanitation efforts as part of the Swachhata Pakhwada campaign.
