INSA-NCGG LEADS programme concludes

New Delhi: The NCGG and the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) have successfully completed the third batch of the NCGG-INSA ‘Leadership Programme in Science and Technology (LEADS)’.The programme was held at INSA, New Delhi from 8th to 14th July.

The program’s goal is to strengthen participating scientists’ capacity for leadership and good governance in scientific institutions and laboratories, providing them with the most up-to-date information and skills for efficiently managing these institutions in order to achieve national priorities and goals.

Shri V. Srinivas, Secretary, Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances, and Director General, National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG), spoke at the valedictory session about the program’s goal of grooming young leaders to lead various scientific institutions across the country, allowing them to make significant contributions to institutional development.

He lauded Prof. Ashutosh Sharma, President of INSA, and his team for creating a thorough curriculum that included a wide range of topics such as litigation, procurement, grievances, financial laws, communication skills, and policy issues.

37 scientists participated in the INSA-NCGG LEADS July 2024 programme, with 23 being male and 14 being female. Notably, this third batch had 38% female involvement, a considerable increase from 14% and 25% in the first and second batches, respectively, demonstrating the program’s dedication to promoting gender diversity in leadership.

The programme drew participation from 14 states and 17 cities across India, demonstrating its broad geographical scope. Participants came from a variety of prestigious universities, including 13 IITs, one NIT, one IIIT, three IISERs, and various government organisations like as DST (7) and CSIR (5).

This seven-day, totally residential programme included a wide range of subjects, including administration, financial management and compliance, leadership skills, communication and media, and policy.

It delivered an intensive learning experience, enabling participants with the skills and insights required to effectively lead in science and technology, thereby contributing to India’s vision of progress and innovation.
