New Delhi: The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry launched the Bharat Startup Knowledge Access Registry (BHASKAR) portal.

The consolidated platform would enable India’s approximately 1.46 lakh DPIIT-recognized start-ups to collaborate with investors, mentors, service providers, and government agencies.

Upon registration, the portal will provide each stakeholder with a BHASKAR ID to access opportunities and partnerships.

The primary goal of BHASKAR is to build the world’s largest digital registry for stakeholders within the startup ecosystem… BHASKAR will serve as a central hub where startups, investors, service providers, and government bodies can come together to collaborate, exchange ideas, and accelerate growth. The platform will also provide startups with access to resources like tools for scaling.

In February 2024, the government announced that there were 1.17 lakh DPIIT-recognised start-ups by December 31, 2023, with more than 12.42 lakh direct jobs, “creating significant economic impact” in 2019.

In 2020, the DPIIT reported no data on start-ups’ GDP contribution or COVID-19 impact, highlighting the potential for centralized platforms like BHASKAR to struggle with real-time data collection.
